An exhibition of Kristin Baker’s new work is currently up at Suzanne Geiss Gallery. Entitled ILLUME-MINE, the collection of abstract canvases utilizes paint as the primary medium to play with the effects of light and color. The resulting artworks are alive and full of movement, with canvas sizes varying from 12 x 10 inches to 120 x 80 inches, further enhancing the experiential effect. Geiss’ press release extrapolates: “Playing off an assemblage of homages (Futurism, Fauvism, Informalism, Abstract Expressionism), Baker creates ‘everywhere’ paintings – their sources and luminous volumes are ambiguous, capricious, and in constant flux.” The exhibit will be up through June 23rd. The gallery is located at 76 Grand Street in downtown Manhattan, open Tuesday-Saturday, 12-6pm.
