With Target amping up it’s collaboration prowess with their new “Shops at Target” model and a highly anticipated partnership this holiday season with Neiman Marcus, Kohl’s is hoping to give them a run for their money by jumping on the trend of cheaper, limited edition designer clothing by launching a capsule collection by Narciso Rodriguez. Due in stores this fall, the collection will be the first of many collaborations Kohl’s has lined up with high-end designers (rumor has it Derek Lam is up next).
Kohl’s is promoting a unique spin on high-low design partnerships by establishing an inspiration concept for particpating designers, which involves flying the designer to a city of his or her choice to serve as inspiration for the collection. Accordingly, the series has been titled “DesigNation”. Rodriguez chose Istanbul as his inspirational locale, and flew there with the Kohl’s design team for four days to ideate the collection. Last month Women’s Wear Daily offered a sneak peak of looks from the upcoming line, which features beet-colored knits that reflect the vibrantly colored rugs, graffiti, and tiles that the designer saw during his trip. The collection will be in stores for one month only, so if you are a fan of pink and purple hues in your wardrobe, be sure to mark your calendar.
