eBay’s Holiday Collective

Online discounter and auction website eBay has announced a partnership with seven leading designers for a limited edition gift collection for the Holiday 2012 season. Designers Billy Reid, Chris Benz, Fallon, Jonathan Adler, Ruffian, Steven Alan and Tibi were tapped to create a total of 40 gift items, priced from $50 to $100, in a wide range of categories such as men’s and women’s apparel, jewelry, travel and electronics accessories and home decor.

It appears that within the competitive fashion landscape, a desire for new and unique merchandise is driving retailer’s to invest in collaborations and limited edition collections to attract shoppers and generate media buzz. Just last week, Target and Neiman Marcus announced their plan to launch a limited edition holiday collection with pieces designed by 24 CFDA designers, and Nordstrom announced it’s partnership with Topshop which involves opening in-store Topshop boutiques in a handful of locations this fall.

“The eBay Holiday Collective marks another milestone for eBay in the fashion category,” Jeff Somers, the general manager of eBay Fashion, told Women’s Wear Daily. He also noted that the designers were chosen for their genuine love of eBay. The Holiday Collective will be available globally online beginning November 12th on Fashion Vault, eBay’s special events and limited time collections retail site. Though the merchandise has yet to be revealed, a few inspirational images from participating designers are below.
