Live From New York, It’s Fashion Week!

What’s black and white and red all over? Fall 2013 fashion, of course. And nobody could be more delighted than me—to be told by the fashion authorities that wearing all black is on trend pretty much confirms everything I have thought for, well, my whole life. AND RED!?!? My favorite outfit fashion color ever?! I am elated to see various shades of red strutting down the runways for fall (though the bright, vibrant hue à la Valentino is my favorite, as some of you may remember from this post). That’s not to say that none of the designers toyed with color, but more that the “OYGBIV” remainder of the rainbow made a rather rare appearance as an unexpected pop within a neutral and mono-tone background.

So let’s take a look at some of a few looks that caught my eye during days 1-4 of fashion week, including a few of those unexpected pops.

NY Fashion Week Spring 2013 RTW Favorites

So far it looks like next Spring we will be wearing a lot of black and white, colorful bold patterns, boxy silhouettes, and cutouts galore (it’s a little ironic that those trends seem to contradict one another, no?) And for your feet, expect a lot of pointy toe pumps with ankle straps. If you want to get really crazy, adopt the war paint look from Boy by Band of Outsiders.

It’s always hard to pick my favorite collections from each season. With New York Fashion Week about half way through, I thought it would be easier to take a look at some of my favorites so far: Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Rag and Bone, Jenni Kayne, and Marissa Webb. And Lisa Perry. And Jill Stuart. Ok I give up. I love the Spring shows because during that last month of winter while I’m pushing against the wind and cold to walk through the slushy New York streets, I keep reminding myself of all the amazing clothes I will be able to wear only a few weeks later. From what I’ve seen so far, these designs will definitely do the trick.

Prabal Gurung (my must have: tiered and sheer grey)

Jenni Kayne (my must have: the hot pink)

Marissa Webb (my must have: halter dress)

Jill Stuart (my must have: white pants and sheer top)
